Wind energy is a clean, renewable source of energy and the market for wind energy is likely to continue to grow. Vestas is one of the largest manufacturers of wind turbines worldwide and TTTech Industrial has been working together with them successfully for more than 10 years.

At Hannover Messe, TTTech Industrial will explain how workload consolidation can benefit businesses of any size by saving cost, reducing complexity, and even mitigating the effects of the chip shortage and present a live showcase of its edge computing platform Nerve at booth B66 in hall 11.

In today’s manufacturing landscape, companies are looking for ways to digitize their production and to improve their processes and products. At the same time, implementing digitalization solutions can be a cost- and resource-intensive process, particularly for smaller companies. The EU project Change2Twin* was started two years ago with the goal of supporting small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in their digitalization journey.

Digitalization is always a huge challenge, but particularly so in the process industry. Here, IT infrastructures often use the traditional approach i.e. individually managed IT applications running on virtualized server clusters managed by the IT department, while OT applications run on separated servers or industrial PCs (IPCs) closer to the shopfloor. While in many cases sufficient for current business needs, companies are not able to make full use of the data available in the company.

Renewable and efficient energy is vital when it comes to facing the challenges of global warming. However, renewable energy generated by wind, water, or solar power is not continuously available. Therefore, the energy needs to be stored, e.g. in hydrogen-based electricity storage solutions, so it can be made available on demand.

TTTech Industrial’s open and flexible edge computing platform Nerve consists of node software that runs on devices at the edge, as well as a management system that runs in the cloud or on a local server. Nerve’s features have been combined into feature sets to create four separate modules. These can be licensed individually or in combination, so customers can choose the package that best fits their use cases and budget.

In an article for the September edition of SPS Magazin, Salomé Christiani, Product Manager Industrial IoT, details how Felss uses our edge computing platform Nerve for flexible and resource-efficient processes. The focus was on Felss’ current project for tool wear detection. “With the program for wear detection we will significantly reduce production waste in the future,” says Dr.-Ing.
